La Braderie De L'art 2008

La Braderie De L'art 2008
, Is an event that has run since 1991 by Art Point M, in short it is a 24 hour design & make using discarded objects and materials. Artist, designers and etc. are gathered from around the globe, (but mainly france as the event is set in Roubaix just outside of Lille) and asked to do something with the rubbish on offer. Part design fair / performance those "playing the game" have to work for at least 24 hours but as we discovered it's more like 32.

This year a group of designers from London were selected to participate alongside over 100
others this group consisted of: Sarah Johnson, Jason Allcorn, Stuart Bannocks, Oliver Bishop-Young, Sam Hill, Julia De Klerk, Russell Martin, Donald Herd, Philip Havlin, Olivier Ward, Becky Gair, Samuel Rhoads-Clarke, linzie hunter and kumiko brocklebank.

Our team consisted of Oliver Bishop-Young, Sam Hill and myself. Our aim was to take the objects we found, break them down into the smallest component parts we could and create graphics from these parts. On route from object to graphic learning a bit about their complexity and how interesting these objects are as a whole but as individual pieces.

As coined by Neil Hubbard whist working on the project concept it is "design from disassembly". Here are a sample of some of the graphics we produced during our time at the event!

We learnt allot from our 24/32 hours and plan to push the whole concept further, I think one of the biggest revelations is how difficult it is to work or do anything whilst being watched.
We also produced a large number of pin badges from discarded magazines, books, and posters, more about this in another post.
